New Rural Worship Leaders
"The future of rural ministry needs to be undertaken, not just supported, by local people who know their locality and the people therein."
That was the message heard loud and clear at the commissioning of 7 new rural Lay Worship Leaders.
About 60 people battled through Storm Ciara to gather in Nunton St Andrew’s for the commissioning of the Lay Worship Leaders, who will be serving in the Chalke Valley Team Ministry.
2 of the new Lay Leaders and their supporters had travelled over 20 miles through the wild weather to get to the church to receive their commissioning certificate from Bishop Andrew.
The Revd Dr Anna Claar Thomasson Rosingh, who led the training for the LWLs said:
"It is great to get together and celebrate. Any excuse for a party, particularly one that help grow discipleship in the local context!"
Revd Anna Claar not only led the training but battled with the formidable paperwork needed for such a service.
This task might be relatively simple in a single-PCC parish, but rounding up the information needed from 7 different people and their parishes, spread over such a wide area, took some doing.
The Team Rector, Catherine Blundell said:
"This is such a super achievement. Thank you to Anna Claar, the team at Nunton and especially to the new LWLs.
"I look forward to seeing the new LWLs share and grow their gifts for all of God’s people!"
