New resources for Thy Kingdom Come

by Michael Ford last modified 09 Apr, 2019 04:41 PM

In preparation for 'Thy Kingdom Come' celebrations, the Church of England has launched a new website and a customisable video for churches.

Thy Kingdom Come, which takes place from 30 May to 9 June and culminates here in this Diocese with a special service at our Cathedral, is now in its fourth year.

Taking place between Ascension and Pentecost, the celebrations unite over a million Christians from more than 65 denominations and traditions globally.

Kemi Bamgbose, Senior Communications Officer for Thy Kingdom Come in the UK said:

"This has been months in the making and we are really pleased with the end result.

"It includes some new and updated features. This includes a clearer layout so it is easier to source resources and also a great new feature which allows an individual who signs up to take part, to show their light or star on the map and also share it on social media - a really lovely engagement tool.

"We will be promoting this quite a bit, as part of our new mini engagement campaign, 'Light Up the World in Prayer'."

The campaign encourages churches, families, small groups and individuals to play their part and 'Light Up the World in Prayer' by signing up to take part in Thy Kingdom Come 2019 and to share on social media.

Then during the eleven days of Thy Kingdom Come, Christians will pray for people they know and love to come to faith in Christ ('Pray for Five') and for their communities. They will gather in small groups, as part of church congregations, in families or as individuals to pray.

Churches will organise a variety of events and activities including prayer walking, continuous prayer, prayer stations, Messy Church special services and Beacon events – often working with local churches from other denominations.

Kemi said:

"For churches, we will be introducing a 'Light Up the World in Prayer' customisable video for churches to share on social media to encourage their congregations or other churches in their area to take part with a customised message – ‘Light Up [your community] in Prayer.’

"We have been working to develop customisable video templates for local churches to promote their involvement in Thy Kingdom Come.

"The template videos will allow churches to enter details of an event for example which will turn in a personal customised video for them to share on their social media platforms. There will be several templates available.

"This resource will be made available for free for churches."

CPO has designed church packs for Thy Kingdom Come with two different types of designs available. The church packs include template posters, flyers, invitations and other useful resources.
