New relief fund to rebuild after Hurricane Dorian

Wiltshire parishioner Elizabeth Perry, the Programme and Communication Manager for the Anglican Alliance, says:

"Before, during and after the arrival of the hurricane we have been in touch with the Rt Revd Laish Boyd, Bishop of the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as others in the Bahamas. We have assured them of our prayers and we stand ready to come alongside and support the diocese in connecting with our global partners to coordinate the Anglican response.

"We offer our condolences to all those who have experienced the trauma of losing loved ones due to the hurricane. We also commiserate with the tens of thousands whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed."

"The Anglican Alliance has been closely monitoring the passage of Hurricane Dorian through the Caribbean (particularly the Bahamas) and the eastern United States coast. We are shocked and saddened by the devastating impact and loss of life in Abaco and Grand Bahama islands.

"The Anglican (Episcopal) Diocese of The Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands is already responding to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Dorian. The diocese, which is part of the Province of the West Indies, is a widespread, trusted and experienced network in the nation for distributing relief after emergencies."

The newly-formed Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund writes:

“We have never seen or imagined devastation like this in this country. The actual damage is incomprehensible: tens of miles of infrastructure, thousands of buildings decimated and hundreds of acres of crop land destroyed… The most heart-breaking thing is the humanitarian crisis with more than 65,000 people in upheaval or displaced, suffering and anguished.”
