New Rector announced for Queen Thorne

Revd Bond, who is a present an Assistant Curate in Devon, will be taking over the cure of souls in the parishes of St Nicholas, Nether Compton; St Michael, Over Compton; St Cuthbert, Oborne; All Saints, Poyntington; St Nicholas, Sandford Orcas; and St Andrew, Trent.

Following a selection process which involved representatives from each of the Queen Thorne parishes, the Bishop of Sherborne announced:
“The Bishop and patrons are delighted to announce the Revd David Bond, currently Assistant Curate in Kingsbridge, Dodbrooke and West Alvington, in the Diocese of Exeter, as the next Rector of the Queen Thorne Benefice.

“He has gained much experience of a mixed multi-parish benefice with a variety of worship styles, formal and informal, and has been involved in ministry to children and young people through schools and the local college.

“David has a passion for rural ministry and is very much looking forward to moving to Dorset.”

Revd Bond, who had a career in the wine industry before training for ordination, said in an open letter to the parishes:
“I am so excited to be coming to the Queen Thorne Benefice.

“There seems to be so much going on in the benefice. I feel that I am being pulled out of a place that I love and where I love the people and into a place which I know I will love and where I know I will love the people.”

The new Rector will be licensed by the Bishop at a service on 19 February at 7pm in
Trent Church followed by a reception in the Rectory.
