New Christian Aid CEO to Visit Salisbury

The new Chief Executive of Christian Aid, Amanda Khozi Mukwashi, is coming to Salisbury next month at an event aimed at raising money for the international Christian charity.

People will have a chance to meet Amanda at a ‘Stawberry Tea’ at South Canonry, the Bishop of Salisbury’s residence, on Sunday 22 July, from 3-5.30 p.m.

Born in the UK of Zambian heritage, and a committed Christian, Amanda became Chief Executive of Christian Aid in April, having spent the previous five years as chief of volunteer knowledge and innovation at the United Nations Volunteer Programme and before that was Director of Policy of VSO International.

Amanda says, “I first came across Christian Aid at the 2005 Gleneagles summit as part of the Make Poverty History movement. I was very impressed by the credibility [CA] brought to the movement. Later I joined the board, and the experience has had a profound effect on me.”

Mary Paisey, Chair of the Salisbury Christian Aid Committee, said, “We are honoured that Amanda, as the new Chief Executive of Christian Aid, is coming to our Strawberry Tea. We are hoping to raise plenty of money but this is also an opportunity to hear from Amanda about the work of Christian Aid.

“We will especially be learning a bit about the need to check climate change, an issue which has a massive impact on many developing countries and which Christian Aid supports, from Amanda and from Bishop Nicholas.”

Bishop Nicholas added, “It will be a privilege to welcome Amanda for her first visit to Salisbury in her new role. Christian Aid is an important partner. They have worked closely with us in South Sudan as well as briefing me on the environment and climate justice.

“Christian Aid’s Chief Executive’s visit gives us a wonderful opportunity to learn about the work our Christian brothers and sisters in other parts of the world are undertaking to tackle big problems like climate change – and enjoy some delicious strawberries and cream in the lovely South Canonry gardens.”

Entry to the event will be £5 and there will be stalls and a raffle.
