New CEO for Church Army

by Michael Ford last modified 18 Feb, 2021 07:17 PM

Church Army is delighted to announce the appointment of The Ven Dr Peter Rouch as the organisation's next Chief Executive Officer.

After an early career with Barclays Bank, Peter trained for ministry at Westcott House in Cambridge. A curacy in London was followed by a period as a research fellow on the staff of St Stephen’s House in Oxford. Peter was Priest in Charge of 2 parishes near the centre of Manchester, where people struggled with lots of the challenges that will be so familiar to those who are served by the Church Army mission community.

Peter says that this period of ministry was hugely significant in shaping his passions and priorities. After nearly a decade as Archdeacon of Bournemouth, serving across the breadth of Anglican traditions, Peter has been working in a national role in the Church of England.

Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, Chair of Church Army Board said:

“I am delighted that Peter Rouch has agreed to come and lead Church Army on the next stage of its journey. His experience as a pastor, Archdeacon, and now working on strategic development for the Church of England nationally, will help Church Army develop its distinctive evangelistic ministry in ways that will be a blessing to the Church across these islands.”

Peter said:

“Christian vocation presents moments when we feel excited, humbled and challenged – all at once. For me this is such a time.

“Church Army is a growing mission community, displaying boldness, simplicity, and humility in its mission. It continues in its commitment to the flourishing of individuals and communities of great need; living the Gospel of which it speaks and supporting the evangelistic adventure of all God’s people.

“To be called to serve amongst its wonderful people is a huge privilege.”

Peter together with his wife Tracey will move to Sheffield and take up the post at the beginning of May.
