Millions in funding available

WCF's Coronavirus Response Grants Programme distributes funds raised through its own appeal and Wiltshire and Swindon’s share of the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal fund.

The Government’s £200m Coronavirus Community Support Fund is being distributed via The National Lottery Community Fund and is aimed primarily at small to medium organisations in England, with 2 key objectives: to increase community support to vulnerable people affected by the Covid-19 crisis, and to reduce temporary closures of essential charities and social enterprises. Grants will allow organisations to meet service costs and refocus services to address more immediate needs in light of Covid-19.

The Family Fund has received extra funding worth £10m from the Department for Education to provide grants for families on low incomes raising disabled or seriously ill children this year. Families can apply for grants to make their lives easier while implementing physical distancing measures, including items such as computers and tablets, outdoor play equipment and sensory toys.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has received £6m for emergency funding to homelessness charities. The Covid-19 Homelessness Response Fund will be delivered through Homeless Link, providing financial assistance at a time when many charities are at risk of having to cut services and staff or close altogether.

Independent Age has released £2m to help smaller organisations across the UK who are working with older people hardest hit by the virus. They are targeting 2 specific groups: older people in particularly complex and challenging situations, and those in danger of being out of sight and out of mind. There will be four rounds of grant-making, with £500,000 available in each of June, July, August and September 2020.

Sport England has committed another £1m to combating the impact of coronavirus by match funding money raised by sports clubs and community activity groups through Crowdfunder. Through the ‘Active Together’ partnership with Crowdfunder, Sport England pledges to match crowd funds of up to £10,000 raised by clubs and organisations affected by the coronavirus crisis.
