Meet Matt
While we all deal with the repercussions of lockdown in our homes and the easing of restrictions in our own lives, homeless charities are still helping those who are vulnerable in our society.
South-West-based charity Alabaré has been highglighting their work during lockdown on social media, and giving it a very personal face.
This week they introduced us to 'Matt' as one of the 350 homeless and vulnerable people they have provided a home for during the pandemic:
"Matt became estranged from his family and friends, and after losing his home had been sleeping rough in woodland. When the virus started to spread across the UK he visited our Drop In to get food and advice, and we were able to help him secure a place in our hostel where he has remained safe and well."
Matt said:
"I’m very thankful to Alabaré and their staff and supporters. They have helped me through a difficult time and I’m now in accommodation and receiving help and support, which I’m so thankful for.”
Founded in 1991, Alabaré is a charity that supports homeless, vulnerable and marginalised people, providing accommodation and helping them gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to live a fulfilled life.
Staff and volunteers work with:
- Those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
- Veterans (through the Homes for Veterans initiative)
- Young people
- Adults with learning disabilities
