'Lucky 13' for a Christmas Tree Festival that's turning trees away

The Festival again took place on the first weekend of December with several new groups amongst the trees that were on display, but there was so much competition for the trees this year, that sadly some of those who applied after the closing date were unable to be included.

Ashley Jones from All Saints said:

"We are nearing the maximum number of trees that we can squeeze in, but once again the standard of presentation was extremely high with most of the displays showing off original work made by the participants.

"The Committee would like to thank all the participating groups from the local schools for their singing and playing on the opening night, the players who provided traditional musical entertainment throughout the weekend and the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle. Also all the people who helped with the organising of the Festival or gave up their time to work as stewards, stall holders or to provide refreshments. It is not easy to find at least 8 people for these roles for every hour the Festival is open!

"Once again there were many pleasing comments from the record number of visitors who came into the Church on all 4 days. There is a lot of talent in our town and an event like this enables the whole community to come together to enjoy and be proud of what can be achieved by the people of Westbury working together."

The Festival was opened by the Archdeacon of Sarum, the Venerable Alan Jeans and the winners of the most popular tree competition, voted for by the visitors, were Bitham Brook Primary School with 147 votes. Second was Westbury Leigh Primary School with 103 votes and third was 1st Westbury Scouts with 97 votes.
