Lay Ministry gets a new Diocesan Champion
We are delighted to announce Karen Hutchinson, currently serving as Archdeacon of Norwich, is joining the Diocese as our new Lay Ministry Development Officer
Karen, who has extensive experience developing lay ministry and collaborative ministry teams in a number of contexts, will work the bishops and members of the Mission, Ministry and Communications Team in leading, developing and coordinating lay ministry across the Diocese to enable the whole church to share in the mission of God in the world.
In addition, Karen brings significant parish experience in a variety of dioceses, and has (since 2016) been serving as the Archdeacon of Norwich and Warden of Readers, a post which includes support and development of lay ministers as well as Diocesan strategy.
Speaking of her appointment, Karen says:
"I am very excited to be joining the Diocese of Salisbury as it invests in the development of lay ministry. I look forward to praying, serving and growing with the team that resources parishes and chaplaincies in Wiltshire and Dorset, and to meeting the many and varied people who offer themselves in God’s service."
Bishop Karen, who carries responsibility for lay ministry says:
"This is great news not only for all our lay ministers across the diocese as Karen brings experience and commitment to supporting their ministry, but also for the ongoing development of collaborative ministry across the diocese and beyond as we look for creative ways to be faithful disciples and share the good news of Christ with those around."
Gillian Clarke, Chair of the House of Laity, who was part of the discernment day says:
"It was good to have an opportunity, with a group of lay people, to chat informally to Karen when she came for interview. Her warmth and readiness to understand what we were saying, to make connections and share ideas created an engaging rapport. I was struck by her energy and enthusiasm, her commitment to all kinds of ministry and vocation in its widest sense. Really looking forward to Karen joining us and helping us do more to release and nurture lay ministry as we build teams and partnerships for mission."
Jonathan Triffitt, Director of Mission and Ministry says:
"I am absolutely thrilled that Karen has been appointed to this new and significant role in the Diocese of Salisbury. Karen brings with her a deep passion and a strong track record for enabling the whole people of God (young and old) to participate in God’s mission in the world today. I very much look forward to working with Karen and supporting the development of lay ministry across the Diocese."
Karen will join the Diocese in Spring 2022.
