Howard League for Penal Reform commends Footprints
Footprints, the church-related project supporting ex-offenders across Dorset and beyond, has been recognised for its work supporting women through its Out of Court Diversionary Scheme.
The Howard League for Penal Reform has given the project a commendation in the Women’s Category of its Community Awards.
Working with Dorset Police, the new scheme works with vulnerable women who are at the point of arrest for committing a crime for the first time or who have a precious criminal record but have not offended in the past 2 years.
Vulnerabilities include mental health problems, women living in coercive or controlling relationships, domestic violence, and committing petty crime to support their family.
Our Diocesan Social Justice Manager Colin Brady says:
"It’s great to see Footprints, which we set up in Dorchester in 2004, continuing to find new ways to support people who are caught up in the criminal justice system. Based on a Canadian model of community chaplaincy, the organisation has seen 1000s of lives transformed over the years through the support of volunteer mentors."
