Home of the Holy Bees

by Michael Ford last modified 09 Oct, 2019 03:15 PM

A beehive has been set up in a far corner of the churchyard at St Nicholas' Worth Matravers as part of an Eco Church initiative to bring biodiversity to the area.

The village bee keeper Patti Sandham, and Churchwarden Liz Hoad routinely check to ensure the bees are thriving.

James Mercer, the Associate Minister said:

"The beehive is part of our attempt to maintain bio-diversity in our corner of Purbeck. It is hoped that the bees will enable the wildflowers in our churchyard to flourish".

And the environmental project has an added bonus - the sampled honey has proved delicious, and is favoured with a hint of lime.

Within Worth, the hive is referred to as the ‘Home of the Holy Bees'.
