Hi-Tech Medieval Palace

An ancient building in Salisbury has been given a thoroughly modern addition – a weather station.  The 13th Century Bishop’s Palace is the main building of Salisbury Cathedral School and, last week, the school’s Eco-group was allowed rare access to the roof to help install the new technology. 

On a beautiful day, with far-reaching views, they set up the equipment which they will use to monitor extreme weather events.  The live weather data will also be used by pupils during their Geography lessons and will be put on the school website to give visitors real-time information about weather conditions in Salisbury.  The next stage of the project is to install a web-cam which will be directed at the Cathedral and will stream live images of current conditions.

Mr Stewart, Head of Geography, said, 'We are very grateful to Lydia Brown, one of our school Governors, who has enabled this project to go ahead.  Having live weather information coming from the roof of our own building is a rare opportunity to enrich our geography curriculum'.
