Happy 10th Birthday St Paul's!
Bishop of Salisbury attends birthday bash for Sherborne church
L-to-r: Bishop Nicholas ; the Revd Jono Tregale; Chris Sheppard, Head of the Gryphon when St Paul’s moved; the Revd Jonathan Triffitt, leader when St Paul’s moved; Nicky Edwards, Deputy Head of The Gryphon.
Bishop Nicholas attended and preached at the 10th anniversary service for a Sherborne church which worships in a local school.
The service last Sunday took place at the Gryphon School, at which St Paul’s Church has been based since 2006.
St Paul’s was opened in 1957 in St Paul’s Close in the West Dorset town. Numbers had ebbed and flowed over the years, but were growing in the mid 2000s and the church was struggling to accommodate them in the existing building.
The Revd Jono Tregale, who leads St Paul’s @The Gryphon, said, “The move to the Gryphon’s Conference Centre has worked wonderfully for us. Growth has continued over the past decade, and we ensure there is Christian presence on the school site at weekends.
“We were delighted to have the Bishop of Salisbury along to preach and we held a celebratory church-birthday lunch afterwards.”
Bishop Nicholas added, “It was a joy to be with the people of St Paul’s @The Gryphon, a community that prays readily, serves its community joyfully, and is growing abundantly. It was great to be with such a mix of ages from toddlers to nonagenarians.”
