Fundraising from Zelston to Zoom
One part of building thriving Christian communities is finding fresh ways to engage people where they are, and to ensure that not everything is run on computers and the internet.
The villagers in the parish of Winterborne Zelston in the Benefice of the Red Post aimed to have fun and raise funds.
Della says:
"Getting more and more upset and frustrated at being held to ransom by the wretched Covid and missing out on our Annual Harvest Festival celebration, my granddaughter Rachel and her husband Andrew had the crazy idea of holding our usual Annual Auction of gifts and harvest produce, but this time on Zoom - and set about making it happen.
"Well-respected local Welsh gentleman Lynne Lewis undertook to be our Auctioneer, and my dining room was commandeered to be the Auction sale room for the event. We had quests joining us from Wimborne, the Isle of Wight and the Forest of Dean.
"In addition - to include those unable to use Zoom - we also held an interesting Silent Auction with written bids placed in my American-style mail box prior to the Auction.
"The rest of the evening was run on St Mary's church Zoom organised and hosted by our Vicar Justin Pottinger, and we all enjoyed a hilariously fun evening raising a magnificent £400 of vital funds to be shared between St Mary’s Church and Zelston Village Hall.
"We were all overcome with gratitude at the warm and generous support we received!"
