Funding a better future

by Michael Ford last modified 22 Jan, 2021 09:25 PM

Hilfield Friary, Dorset's Franciscan Community has been offered a Countryside Stewardship agreement that will guide and fund lots of exciting conservation work around the Friary over the next 10 years.

The Countryside Stewardship initiative was set up by the Government to provide financial incentives for farmers, woodland owners, foresters and land managers to look after and improve the environment.

Community Member Richard Thornbury said:

"We are thrilled to announce that we have been offered a Countryside Stewardship agreement that will guide and fund lots of exciting conservation work around the Friary over the next 10 years.

"This will include planting hundreds of trees, creating wood pastures and orchards, digging ponds, funding for school visits, radio tracking the local bat populations, building boardwalks, improving our wet woodlands, managing our wildflower meadows and a lot more.
