Fun Day raises over 3K
Many of our parishes and charity partners have had to persist in fundraising and adapt to the current conditions, and it all takes time. Any successes are welcome!
In Wimborne, the Minster Makes Music Appeal has gradually raised over £521,000 towards the £560,000 cost of restoring the organ, and further funds are being raised towards a music foundation.
As part of the fundraising effort, the parish recently held a Fun Day with plenty of music, activities, and charity stalls.
Highlights included the Teddy Bear Zip Dive from the top of the West Tower down to the War Memorial on the Green and the climbing wall was enjoyed by children and adults alike, including both the Rector and Curate of the Minster.

The event had a community feel, with Number 9 on the Green providing cream teas, ices and other food, and Radio Wimborne providing the PA system.
The Mayor of Wimborne Minster, Cllr Mrs Kelly Webb, opened the Fun Day after being piped down the High Street by Richard Rowland on the bagpipes, and Deputy Town Crier Mel Gudger gave an appropriate ‘shout’ after Rector Andrew Rowland had welcomed everybody.
The West Tower was open for visitors to visit the ringing chamber, Minster Organist Colin Davey played on the Minster's temporary organ, and the Dorset Youth Marching Band, under the direction of Simon Wheeler, provided music throughout the day.
Several charities including Wimborne in Bloom, Friends of Victoria Hospital Wimborne and the Children’s Society, raised money for their own good causes.
Press Officer Anthony Oliver was one of a small group who organised the Adventure Fun Day on the Minster Green held in aid of the Minster Makes Music Appeal. In addition there were stalls raising funds for The Minster, with the book stall doing brisk trade all day.
Anthony said:
“A fantastic day was had by all, the sun shone, there were smiling faces all round and the money flowed. A fundraising occasion full of happy people, glad of some freedom at last!
"Grateful thanks to the Minster Press and the Around Guides for kindly sponsoring the Climbing Wall so that all the proceeds donated go to the Minster Makes Music Appeal."
At the close, over £3,500 had been raised for the Minster Makes Music Appeal, Minster Funds and the participating charities.
