Freefalling in faith, for funds *Updated
A group of risk-takers has raised more than £5,000 by skydiving from 13,000ft to raise awareness and funds for The Bridge Youth Project.
One skydiver was the Revd Wendy Cooper, Associate Priest at St Thomas’, Salisbury. “It was amazing,” said Wendy. “So quiet, and I could see for miles. They take really good care of you and I can recommend this to anyone doing a first-time jump.”

Among a number of comments, one student said to her, "Wendy, you should skydive because the Bridge is an incredible organisation which helps so many students feel more comfortable with being a Christian... GO ON JUMP!”
UPDATE: Wendy adds with a twinkle, “I'm over £1,700 so far - it would be great to get to £2,000. Please sponsor me!”
The group took to the skies with the Army Parachute Association at Netheravon airfield in Wiltshire, which claims to be the longest continuously operated airfield in the world. Established in 1913 by the Royal Flying Corps, it became RAF Netheravon from 1913 to 1963.
Another skydiver was Sarah Alford, who is part of the Primary schools’ team for the Bridge Youth Project. “I was really excited to take part in the skydive event,” said Sarah. “My nerves only really hit me the night before but I found the whole experience so well organised and the instructors were so professional.”
“It was an amazing day and plans are already coming together for next year’s event,” said Alex Ewing, Director of the Bridge Youth Project. “There’s been such a buzz from all the people involved and money continues to come in from supporters and participants.”
The Bridge Youth Project is a Christian schools work charity covering Salisbury and South Wiltshire. Working in over 20 primary schools, the Bridge seeks to bring Christian faith, hope and love to young people through a whole range of different services, including pastoral care, group work, assemblies and whole school events.
