Former Head of Crime joins our Safeguarding Team

Jeremy Carter, who was a Detective Superintendent Head of Crime with Wiltshire Police joins us as Diocesan Safeguarding Officer, sharing the role with Heather Bland who will be reducing her hours in the role.

Commenting on his appointment, Jeremy - who is known as Jem - said:

"I am delighted to be taking up this new position following my time with Wiltshire Police and I am looking forward hugely to the fresh challenges it will bring."

Steve Long, Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Monitoring Group said:

"Jem will bring to the Diocese Safeguarding Team a wealth of experience not only of investigation, but also working with other agencies.

"He was a member of the Diocese Safeguarding Management Group when it was first formed and has always been supportive. He will be a tremendous asset and I am delighted he will be joining".

Jeremy was born and grew up in Salisbury and after leaving school he spent 5 years in the military, joining Wiltshire Police in 1991.

During his service Jeremy has carried out an array of specialist roles. Between 2015 and 2018 Jeremy was the Head of the Major Crime Investigation Team, leading the Force’s response to homicide. During an extensive career in investigation he has conducted enquiries in Northern Ireland, Greece and New Zealand. He has extensive partnership working experience and previously was the Force lead on child abuse investigation.

In September 2018 Jeremy took up a Detective Superintendent’s role at Wiltshire Police Headquarters, overseeing a variety of specialisms for the Force, including Covert investigations, Organised Criminality, Complex Fraud, Cyber Crime and Modern Slavery.

As part of his slavery responsibilities Jeremy is currently the Swindon and Wiltshire Anti-Slavery Partnership Chair, a post he has held since March 2018.

Jem continues to live in Salisbury and is married to Sarah, with whom he has with two teenage sons. In his advancing years Jem has recently become a keen 'Park-Runner', clocking up over 60 such runs in the last 18 months.
