For whom the bell tolls
Across the Diocese, our churches and their communities are marking the tragic milestone of 100,000 Covid-19 deaths.
As in many of our Deaneries, Blackmore Vale Chapter discussed how they could respond to the tragic passing of the 100,000 covid death mark, and the suggested idea is that - where possible - a single ringer tolls a bell 100 times on Sunday 31st January at 12.00noon.
Each ring marks 1000 Covid deaths.
Rural Dean Lydia Cook said:
“Tolling a bell in this way is a traditional way of marking national events in our communities: we could do this on Sunday as a mark of respect and a symbol of shared grief.
"Tower Captains will need to liaise with clergy about a covid risk assessment, and no one should be in church alone."
How did your church mark this tragic milestone? Do let us know.
