Getting set up to reach out!

Andy Malcolm, Children and Young People's Adviser to the SDBE* said:

"As part of our new stream of work with Community Hubs, where schools and churches work together to meet the needs of their local community, we have been supporting St Peter’s Church in Shaftesbury to launch some much-needed detached youth work onto a new housing estate.

"Following some strong consultation with children and young people in the area, we heard that there was a lack of activities for young people in certain areas of the market town.

"Through the energy, vision and enthusiasm of some fabulous members of St Peter's, we have launched a 10-week run of evening sessions, including sport, food and arts and craft, for young people in Shaftesbury throughout the summer.

"It was a delight to be able to support some real grass-roots youth work activities – a handful of volunteers committed and enthused to make their local community a richer place, particularly for their children and young people in the summer months, as a first response to the needs raised by children and young people in Shaftesbury."
