First Aid for Youth Mental Health
One of our Dorset deaneries is running a one-day course aimed at equipping people to respond in practical ways in emergency situations involving mental ill health in the young.
Poole and North Bournemouth Deanery is holding the 'Youth, Mental Health First Aid' one day course to raise awareness of mental health issues and reduce the sigma surrounding them, as well as giving the practical first aid skills needed to respond in emergency mental health situations.
Nick Ellis, who is leading the day said:
"This is an invaluable course aimed at anyone who works with young people.
"The aim is not to fix issues, it is more about supporting people and encouraging them to get help. The course is written by MHFA England CIC who have been producing these courses for over 10 years and have been leading the field in not just the UK but the world in this type of training."
Nick lives in the Diocese and is a Director of JJ Ellis Ltd, a provider of training services based in London and the South of England. He has been a frontline serving police officer in London for over 17 years, where he has had to deal with mental health crises as well as supporting colleagues. He is also a qualified MFHA Trainer.
This course usually retails at around £250 per person plus VAT. This course has been fully funded, but a small contribution towards tea and coffee and heating would be appreciated where possible. All participants will receive a detailed manual, workbook and certificate.
