Finding the right note
Clergy, Lay Worship Leaders, musicians and singers from Dorset came together to explore the challenge of introducing new hymns and songs to Holy Week and Easter.
The seven parishes or benefices from three of the County’s deaneries took part in a lively workshop at St Nicholas’ Corfe Mullen.
Revd Heather Waldsax, the Diocesan Music in Worship Network Coordinator said:
“The hymns and songs sampled were relevant to Confession, Holy Communion for Maundy Thursday, Eucharistic responses, and Easter. Different methods of teaching new hymns and songs were tried, to show how possible it is, with whatever musical resources available, to enable congregations to access high quality modern Christian words and singable music.
“Among the comments we had from the day were: ‘I don’t read music but found the learning style really helpful’; ‘Extremely helpful, worshipful and enjoyable’ and ‘Good to talk to others about what they do and be inspired and encouraged.’”
