Filling a need
In our weekly Grapevine news, we asked parishes what they had been up to over the summer, and have had some response.
Wiltshire's Tess Brocksopp, an LPA at Holy Trinity Church Dilton Marsh, says:
"This summer, ‘Soul Space’ was launched at Holy Trinity. As lockdown was easing, we met to discuss this new venture. Volunteers were ‘safely recruited’ as hosts, and completed safeguarding training.
"We have a lovely peaceful space in our Lady Chapel where we hold Soul Space on Monday afternoons. We serve tea, coffee and cakes, without charge, made by willing members of our congregation.
"We have welcomed people of all ages, from one to ninety, and all abilities. They come alone, or with family or carers. We were delighted to welcome families who are new to the village.
"Some of our visitors like to sit and chat; hosts are always on hand to listen. Others enjoy a jigsaw or a game of Scrabble or participating in other games which people have kindly donated.
"Children have enjoyed colouring, simple crafts and origami. One lady with dementia enjoys singing hymns with one of our hosts.
"I feel that Soul Space is such a good opportunity for our church to open its doors and welcome all in our community. It certainly fills a need, especially after so many months of lockdown."
