Fantastic achievement by two talented Salisbury students

Rosie Woodhouse, a year 12 pupil at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury  (founded in 1890 by Bishop John Wordsworth) and Gianpiero Greatorex, a year 11 pupil at St. Joseph’s  Catholic School in Laverstock were “thrilled” to join  professional opera singers as part of the ‘Celebrate Voice’ line up in Salisbury on Saturday 23rd October as part of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury. 

Rosie described ‘Celebrate Voice’ as “an uplifting and inspiring performance” with Gianpiero adding that it was like being in one big family. Both students have been singing with ‘celebrate voice’ since 2015 and are excited to have been given the opportunity to now sing with the professional chorus. 

Before the performance, Festival director Lynsey Docherty said,  

“I am inspired by these young people…Rosie and Gianpiero are not only talented, but focused and they will bring a wonderful youthful vibrancy to the show.” 

Rosie also sings with the National Youth Training Choir and her school choir. She hopes to achieve a scholarship to study at Oxford and become a professional opera singer. Lewis Edney, head of music at Bishop Wordsworth’s said of Rosie,  

“We are incredibly proud of her being selected to participate in this project and know it is only the beginning of her musical career”. 

Gianpiero who sings with the Wiltshire Youth Choir and the Salisbury Cathedral Youth choir, also aspires to become a professional musician. Mr Blakey, head of music at St. Joseph's said,  

“I am so proud of Gianpiero and everything he has accomplished so far…”
