Experiencing Torture
A national campaign is calling on churches and schools to mark the experiences of torture survivors throughout the world on 26 June.
Redress, a charity that seeks justice and reparation for victims of torture, is encouraging congregations to hold a vigil, lead a sermon, or organising a collection to assist organisations that support torture survivors, to make a difference in their lives and those of their families.
Among the many cases Redress is working on is that of the campaign for the release of Nazanin Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian mother who is in jail in Iran.
As part of the campaign, the charity has prepared a series of materials for use in churches and schools by clergy and laity alike, including a briefing highlighting the experiences of torture survivors, prayers, and a sermon for inspiration if required. These materials can either be used on 26 June itself or on a Sunday either side of the event.
Redress has also created a dedicated website area where those interested can find additional information and request additional materials, such as posters, which will be made available closer to the date.
