Dorset Ride and Stride raises over £80,000

by Michael Ford last modified 17 Dec, 2018 06:43 PM

A tractor joined the regular horse and bike riders and walkers as they toured over 170 of Dorset’s most beautiful churches to raise £83,000 at this year’s Ride and Stride event for the county’s Historic Churches Trust (DHCT).

The proceeds go to help maintain the historic churches of the county and have allowed DHCT to grant over £110,000 in grants this year for leaking roofs, subsiding floors, failed boilers and a host of other projects, large and small.

The Chair of DHCT, Simon Pomeroy, thanked everyone who took part. “This is a great community event,” he explained, “but one with a special and very important aim – to help maintain buildings which are at the heart of nearly every town and village in Dorset. We are absolutely delighted with the sum raised and thank all who took part for their remarkable contribution.

“With the cost of repairs to church buildings – most of which are very old and listed as being of special architectural and historic interest – going up all the time, the work of the Trust is more important than ever.”
