Doing her bit

by Michael Ford last modified 01 May, 2020 06:43 PM

One regular churchgoer has been so inspired by Captain Tom Moore's fundraising for the NHS, that she has set up a roadside foodbank collection point.

Shirley Critchley, a long-term resident of Branksome Park, Poole and regular at All Saints Church, was so inspired by seeing the 99 year old raise over £27 million by doing his laps in his garden, she thought to herself:

"If he's doing his bit, I will do mine!"

Shirley puts out a wheelbarrow in Links Road, near to Parkstone Golf Club, outside her home, with a sign saying :

"Thank you very much, STOP AND DROP, NEXT TIME YOU PASS. COREY COLLECTS IT ALL PUTS IT IN A BUGGY HOOKED ON TO HIS BIKE AND THEN TAKES IT OVER TO POOLE FOOD BANK!"

And as you can see from the picture, people are responding to the request.

The Revd Charlie Boyle, Vicar at All Saints Branksome Park, says this is not the first time Shirley has just got on and done something about things she feels passionate about:

"She regularly collects old spectacles from the congregation members of All Saints Church, then gives them to the Scientific Exploration Society, who take them on their expeditions, to far flung places like Nepal and Berundi."
