Diocesan Secretary to Move On

Bishop Nicholas says that there ‘will be a tremendous loss’ to the Diocese as long-standing Diocesan Secretary Lucinda Herklots has announced that she will be moving on at the end of November.

In a letter announcing the decision this morning, Bishop Nicholas wrote:

“Lucinda Herklots has given notice that she will be leaving her role as Diocesan Secretary with effect from 30^th November 2018.

“She has been in post since January 2004 and her moving on will be a tremendous loss. She has made an enormous contribution to the Diocese of Salisbury and is widely perceived as one of the Church of England’s best Diocesan Secretaries. This has not just been a job for her; but her vocation.

“Lucinda has overseen the effective administration of Church House, reducing costs and increasing income in innovative ways that have helped reduce the Fairer Share requested from parishes. She has built close relationships with the Diocesan Board of Education so that we have a joined-up approach to education, ministry and mission. She has been a valued member of the Bishop’s Staff ensuring the development of effective ministry and mission across the Diocese and in each Archdeaconry, Deanery and Benefice. She has worked closely with Bishop’s Council, Finance Committee, Diocesan Synod, Rural Deans and the Deanery Lay Chairs. She has encouraged the development of lay ministry in the Diocese and is a lay Canon of the cathedral. 

“Lucinda has made significant contributions to the national Church of England, most recently as a member of the Dioceses Commission and chair of the Diocesan Secretaries Liaison Group and she currently serves on the Finance Committee and Investment Committee of the Archbishop’s Council.

“That Lucinda has given 6 months notice of her resignation means that we expect to be able to recruit a new Diocesan Secretary to start as soon as or very soon after she finishes work with us. She will be greatly missed.

“Lucinda is also the first to say there is much still to do and she has a suitably long task list to complete before the end of November.”

It is expected that the post will be advertised before the summer holiday season with interviews in September.
