Deepening Discipleship

There was a chance to reflect on personal spirituality as well as how to resource others when our Licensed Lay Ministers met up in Dorset for their first Diocesan Day together.

This new initiative to the Diocese, hosted by Bishop Karen at St Nicholas, Corfe Mullen, was warmly welcomed as a day to refresh and be re-energised.

Canon Judy Anderson, our Diocesan Associate Warden of Licensed Lay Ministers who was at the day, said:

"The keynote speaker, the Revd Pauline Reid, led the reflections on spirituality, using poetry from mystics including Julian of Norwich and Thomas Merton as well as some modern poets, and illustrations from her own experience. Most of the LLMs had not practised ‘paying attention’ by focusing on a shiny foil-wrapped chocolate before!

"Bishop Karen, Warden of LLMs, presided at a moving service of Holy Communion.

"In the afternoon a choice of workshops was offered: 'Four Pillars of Rural Mission'; 'The Creative Use of Psalms and New Hymns & Songs in Worship'; 'Origami'; 'Prayer Spaces Anywhere'; and 'Celebrate, Communicate, Interrogate (steps to a healthy theological mind)'.

"The workshops provided the opportunity to focus on our own learning, to assimilate new ideas to enhance our ministry, or simply to enjoy the creativity of origami."
