Countdown to the Games Begins *Updated
Organisers from the Church in Weymouth and Portland are preparing to stage a free festival at Portland Gateway over the August Bank Holiday (Thursday 25-Monday 29 August).
The Minifest will begin with a church service on the Thursday evening (7.30pm).
For children and families there will be morning Kids Clubs on Friday, Saturday and Monday. In the afternoons, parents and children can join together for ‘Messy Church’ activities.
There will be sports and arts activities for all ages on Friday afternoon, with a Barn dance on Friday evening (7-10pm).
The arts and sport continue on Saturday afternoon, including a 5-a-side football competition. There will also be a Band Night for young people and those who like rock music at (8pm).
Other attractions include a café serving drinks and delicious home made cakes and skateboard displays and a live disco at the Portland Skatepark on Saturday afternoon.
Volunteers from a number of local churches will run several events on Sunday, beginning with the Great Big Worship Event (10.30am), followed by a barbecue (4pm), with a ‘Songs of Praise’ service featuring the local Salvation Army Band (4.30pm), a Healing service (6:30pm) and a Faith and Film Evening following the Healing service (8pm).
Organiser Anni Douglas said, “We’re tremendously excited about the 2012 Games, and everyone’s worked really hard to put on a fantastic Minifest. We look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and welcoming new friends. This is just the start!”
