Cosmic work

by Michael Ford last modified 15 Jan, 2020 01:58 PM

A Dorset church has launched a youth group that builds on the success of their Sunday School.

St Mary's in West Moors has launched Cosmics PLUS to cater for children now too old to go to the Sunday School based "Cosmics" (Children of St Mary’s in Church).

It is hoped that Cosmics PLUS will encourage the children who attend church and those on the fringes of church to build healthy and fun relationships outside the immediate church setting.

It is intended to provide a safe place for young people to be themselves within a supportive and nurturing Christian atmosphere.

So far, the group has enjoyed a fun film evening followed by toasting marshmallows in the garden, and a night walk in West Moors plantation, and plan a pilgrimage to Salisbury Cathedral.

The Church also has close links with its local primary School in West Moors and this has led to children from the school being involved in another initiative.

St Mary’s Church holds a TEA@3 event once a month for older and often isolated members of the community.

Children from the school frequently come along to provide entertainment, particularly singing, but also mixing with and chatting to those who attend. It's inter-generational, and a positive and rewarding experience for all involved.
