Coming Back Fighting
Award-winning British singer-songwriter Philippa Hanna played to an enthusiastic audience of over 150 people at St Mark’s Church Salisbury, celebrating St Mark’s Day on Thursday (25 April).
The supporting folk duo Antoine and Owena set a gentle tone with their set that included their own composition ‘The ballad of John Olden’ as well as the folk standard ‘John Barleycorn’, before the headliner took the stage.
Attendee Morris Munns said, “Philippa’s rocking offering of ‘I Saw the Light’ had people on their feet moving enthusiastically and applauding loudly, but they were silently attentive when she cooled the atmosphere talking about her early experience.
“Her enthusiasm as she spoke and sang about her faith and involvement with ‘Compassion’ children’s work in Haiti was infectious. The audience left with plenty of ‘ear-worms’, as well as things to think about on the way home.”
Philippa is a live veteran, with over 1,000 live performances in 25 countries in ten years, and has been invited to open tours for diverse household names such as Little Mix, Lionel Richie, Anastacia, Leona Lewis, and Wet Wet Wet.
She has been recently booked to tour with the Kingdom Choir who wowed everybody at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. Her latest album ‘Come Back Fighting’ takes Philippa back to her country roots with songs such as ‘Off the Wagon’ drawing comparisons with the likes of Dolly Parton.
