Getting on board with youth work
The ‘Coach in the Community’ venture was officially launched on Wednesday 3 July by the Bishop of Sherborne, Dr Graham Kings, at Horton Village Hall.

Representatives from nearby villages, churches and local government also attended the event.
The Coach itself, a blue double-decker bus, was tried and tested in its previous role, serving young people in Ringwood. Newly refurbished as a meeting point and café, with audio-visual facilities and games consoles, the Coach has a remit to support young people and community groups in the villages north of Wimborne.
Dr Kings said that while the Coach would not be able to carry passengers, it would still be a means of expanding the horizons of young people and others in rural areas where facilities and resources are often very limited.
Project Manager Lewis Pearson said, “My hope and dream for this project is that we can partner with local organisations to do new things to benefit the community in their village or town.”
The Coach is already used at Alderholt Recreation Ground as a weekly drop-in youth club, St James’ Church Alderholt have used it as a venue for a teenage confirmation group and the project has attracted interest from various communities.
Lewis Pearson is keen to use the Coach in a variety of ways and welcomes further ideas.
