Organiser Christopher Fielden says, “For fourteen years, the Bradford on Avon Deanery has been linked with the Diocese of Kadugli in Sudan. The Deanery has a small support committee and we were offered the use of Tidworth Polo Club as a fundraising venue by the Manager, Christopher Andrews.
“The trophy was imported direct from Sudan!
“For the last two years, thanks to the generosity of the Polo Club and Exton Park, one of our fundraising events has been the Kadugli Cup Polo Tournament. On the two occasions we have run it, we have been blessed with sunshine and all present have enjoyed themselves.
“We are in touch with Bishop Hassan in Kadugli to see where the money will be best spent - education, children and cholera are certainly in mind. Archbishop Justin visited Kadugli during his trip to Sudan two weeks ago.”
The Royal Navy fielded a team this year, as well as Tidworth’s King’s Royal Hussars - the official Armed Forces polo club. The winners, ‘Oh Gosh’, defeated the Tidworth B team in the final and Bishop Edward presented the trophy.
Christopher adds, “In the future we would welcome teams from all over the Salisbury Diocese. Are there any polo players out there?”
