Celebrating the Queen's Jubilee

by Michael Ford last modified 27 May, 2022 03:05 PM

The Jubilee weekend is fast approaching - here's everything you need to know.

As churches prepare to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, HOPE Together, the Church of England, the Methodist Church and other partners have created resources that churches can use to bring their communities together at this special time.

The goal of these resources is to help churches focus on the Queen’s 70 years of faith and service, putting churches at the heart of their communities for the celebrations. The Platinum Jubilee website is a one-stop-shop, which includes a Platinum Jubilee Party Planner; a song for community choirs to sing; ideas for schools, youth groups and uniformed organisations; 70 acts of service to honour the Queen’s life of service; a children's book entitled "The Girl Who Grew Up to Be Queen" and a 64-page gift book, “Our Faithful Queen,” which highlights the rarely-seen prayers the Queen prayed in preparation for her coronation.

On Friday 3 June a Service of Thanksgiving for The Queen’s reign will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral. It starts at 11.30am, and will be broadcast live on the BBC.

Regarding TV Licences to watch the service, the BBC can grant a dispensation for the temporary use of TV equipment in a community setting if it is only used to view an event of national importance. A dispensation is being given to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee across the weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June 2022.

The National Churches Trust has produced a special Jubilee Proclamation which you may wish to use on your social media or in your churches. All the resources are available here.

We look forward to hearing your local stories of celebration. Email us with a photo or two
