Celebrating 60 Years in Song

by ajack last modified 15 Dec, 2021 05:36 PM

Six decades of service to a church choir has been an eventful career...

Ask Jonathon Hiscock what he’s achieved over the last 60 years and the list will be endless!

All of these achievements are down to Jonathan’s commitment to the Wimborne Minster Choir, which he joined in 1961. When he joined, there were just 20 boys and 10 men making up the choir. Fast-forward 60 years and the choir now consists of over 70 singers, men and ladies, and performs four concerts a year in local venues.

To celebrate his time with the choir, he was publicly thanked for his service at the family Eucharist Service on Remembrance Sunday and was presented with a specially designed certificate recording his 60 years of service, an engraved decanter together and a card containing messages of congratulations from present and past colleagues. He was then saluted by the Gentlemen of the Choir with a touching tribute set to the tune of "Three Kings from Persian Lands Afar".

Reflecting on the last 60 years, Jonathan said that the choir had helped him develop a love of music, musical ability and a good ear.

We pray for and wish Jonathan many more years of singing in the Choir and with other choirs across the diocese!
