Candles on the Hill
It’s so important for us to have a presence in our wider community and be involved in community events. Can you set yourself a goal this week to reach out to a group in the wider community that you have no connection to?
Every year, a circle of light, lights up an Abbotsbury landmark, raising hundreds of pounds for local charities. This year, we are proud to announce that our friends at St. Nicholas Church were the beneficiaries for the day.
Candles on the Hill took place on Sunday to mark St Catherine's Day, and Revd Margaret Preuss-Higham from St. Nicholas Church, said:
“The event organised by the Abbotsbury Tourism and Traders Association is a fundraiser and this year it is for the Friends of St Nicholas' Church, Abbotsbury and sees the community come together to remember loved ones.
Paper candle bags, decorated by locals and children from the local primary schools which contained LED lights were laid out in the shape of a circle representing a Catherine Wheel, and lined the path to the chapel on the hillside. They were seen to glow in the fading light after sunset.”
A short service conducted by Revd Margaret was held at St Catherine's Chapel as the sun set. The congregation loudly sang the hymn for saints
“For all the Saints”.
