Bishop of Ramsbury Announces Retirement

The Bishop of Ramsbury, the Rt Revd Dr Edward Condry has announced that he will be retiring at the end of April when he will reach the age of sixty-five. His farewell service will be Evensong at St John’s Devizes on Sunday 15 April at 6.00 pm.

Bishop Edward said,  “Sarah and I move on with some sadness but with much thanksgiving. I have been blessed here with great colleagues. We have loved living in the beautiful county of Wiltshire. It has been a privilege to serve the parishes of this Diocese.

“I have been constantly astonished at the generous and loving work of those who worship here, quietly serving Christ through their service to neighbours and communities.”

Bishop Nicholas said,  “Bishop Ed has been the encourager he said he wanted to be when he became Bishop of Ramsbury.

“He has brought intellectual rigour to the Bishop’s Staff and helped us develop the language and ideas of Renewing Hope, especially in the rural Church. This has been good for the Diocese and influential beyond.

“For us, Bishop Ed also chairs the Diocese’s Learning for Discipleship and Ministry Council. He loves the parishes and chaplaincies in the Wilts and Sarum Archdeaconries.

“Sarah is deeply committed to the local church and has been a member of the Diocesan Environment Group, Mothers Union and Friends of Erlestoke Prison.  She and Bishop Ed have been warmly hospitable.

“There is much to give thanks for and they will be greatly missed. Meanwhile we can enjoy the last few months of ministry with them here as we begin 2018 together.”
