Billy's Christmas Gift
Meet Billy Bird. As much as Billy loves nesting in a good Christmas tree, he also seems to have a gift (and love) for helping people explore faith.
On the first Saturday of December he joined twenty adults with learning disabilities as they gathered together with support staff and Chaplains at Alabaré Christian Care and Support in Salisbury for an Advent themed ‘Faith Saturday’.
Senior Chaplain Keith Thomasson explained:
“Following a healthy shared lunch we explored the theme of trees through the story of the tree of life in Revelation 22, with a particular focus on the leaves for the healing of the nations.
“The wonderful Heather Leppard and her trusted companion Billy helped us all to reflect on the story in a fun, engaging way. This was followed by St Boniface and the first Christmas tree, Bob Hartman style.
"A time for further creativity led to the creation of a prayer tree, decorations for a Christmas tree, and the learning of songs including a Taizé Gloria, Chris de Burgh's 'A Spaceman Came Travelling' and a refrain from Godspell; 'Prepare ye the way of the Lord'. From these elements we crafted a Service of the Word, and ended with afternoon tea!"
