Because every 15 minutes, a child comes into care
The 'Home for Good' Christian charity, that inspires and resources churches and congregations to play their part in caring for vulnerable children, is hosting 2 major events in our Diocese.
'Families of Refuge', a project run by Home for Good that aims to find homes for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, will launch in Wiltshire at St Paul’s Church in Salisbury on February 6th.
The evening will hear from the charity's Founder and Director Dr Krish Kandiah, as well as a local social worker and those already involved in the project, who will explain not only the need for homes but how individuals and families can be part of the solution.
In March, Home for Good will be in Trowbridge, with an information evening for anyone interested in finding out more about fostering or adoption, as well as those exploring what fostering and adoption can look like in our churches and communities.
There will be a chance to meet the team, including the Wiltshire Fostering Team, and to ask questions.
Clare Walker, the South West Regional Manager for the charity says:
"We believe the Church is ideally placed to ensure that every child and young person has the loving home they need, and every family who cares for vulnerable children is drawn into a committed supportive community.
"Every 15 minutes in the UK, a child will come into care, many will have suffered neglect or abuse, all will experience trauma and loss.
"Each one deserves a home where they will be loved, nurtured and enabled to thrive, whether that’s through short-term foster care, a long-term foster placement, or with a new adoptive family."
In addition to these 2 events, Home for Good is offering children's and youth leader training for anyone involved in children’s or youth work in our churches.
This is designed to equip and resource churches to better understand the needs of children who have been adopted or are in foster care.
The training event takes place on February 10th at St Matthew’s Church Bath, with a mixture of theory and practice, and plenty of space within the evening to consider the implications and next steps for your context.
It would be ideal for whole teams to come along together.
