Beaminster church goes blue for the NHS

Beaminster St Mary's is being turned blue every Thursday night to show the area's support for all essential key workers, carers and NHS staff.

Local business JSW Entertainment Group decided to start the initiative - Light it Blue - Clap for Carers - to create a visual acknowledgement of all the local initiatives and individuals who are going beyond the call of duty to keep communities active, supported and cared for.

And in the Dorset town, their blue church seemed to amplify the regular Thursday 8pm applause.

Beaminster is just the first of what the company hope will be lots of churches who will be willing to go blue for the NHS at this time.

The lighting of the church has gone down well in the community the church serves, with many residents sharing their own photos of the church in blue on their own social media profiles.

The Rector of St Mary's, the Revd Canon David Baldwin commented on Facebook:

"Thank you for all the lovely comments saying how much lighting up the church meant in support of all our key workers and NHS staff and thank you to Beaminster Town Council for supporting this venture."

St Mary’s planned to light up blue on Thursday evening 7 May from 8pm until 11:30pm.
