Attention: Baptism taking place

A 16 year old cadet, who had just enlisted into the Army and had just began his basic training, was baptised by our Archdeacon Alan Jeans, who is their Senior Padre.

The Wiltshire Army Cadet Force hold their Annual Camp around July or August every year. The camp lasts for 12 days and takes place at different locations each year.

This year the cadets went to went to Longmoor, taking 310 cadets aged from 12 to 18, and 80 adult volunteers all highly trained in delivering training and teaching to the cadets. They were joined by Archdeacon Alan and the Revd Jo Reid, Team Vicar of the Savernake Team.

The cadets learn fieldcraft skills, weapons training, and how to camouflage themselves. Along with Jo and Archdeacon Alan, they also sleep out and cook from their 24 hr ration pack.

They learn how to read maps, First Aid, and how to care for their kit.

They also take part in expeditions up to 25 mile hikes, sometimes staying out overnight in tents.

Many of the cadets are doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award and the expedition can often count towards their qualification.

The camp always begins with a Drumhead service led by Archdeacon Alan and Revd Jo, with a short introduction and welcome by the Wiltshire ACF Commandant.

This year, Revd Jo and Archdeacon Alan also dedicated new standards for all the Detachments.
