Archbishop thanks Bishop

by Michael Ford last modified 30 Apr, 2021 11:51 PM

The Archbishop of Canterbury has paid a seven-minute tribute to Bishop Nicholas and to his wife Helen, at our Bishop's last General Synod.

Justin Welby said:

"They have been forthright, they have been clear, they've been different, they've been challenging, they've not been remotely willing to let things go by because everyone was nodding when they were half asleep, and they've been passionate about the work they've done.

"Nick has done that right through his ministry."

Bishop Nicholas announced earlier this year that he would be retiring at the start of July.

You can watch the whole of the Archbishop's thanks to our retiring Bishop and his wife Helen here.

Almost immediately, Twitter lit up with tweets about the Bishop and the Archbishop's tribute.

General Synod tweeted:

"The Archbishop of Canterbury @JustinWelby is now paying tribute to the Bishop of @DioSalisbury, Nicholas Holtam, who is retiring later in the year."

And Bishop Ruth Worsley tweeted:

"So appreciated working with +Nick when I was Archdeacon of Wilts. What an example of holy and humble leadership! @DioSalisbury @BathWells Thank you Nick and Helen. Enjoy retirement!"
