All Working Together

by Michael Ford last modified 02 Apr, 2020 08:24 PM

While one Dorset benefice waits for their new Rector to arrive, they have harnessed the power of collaborative leadership to provide weekly worship.

The Winterbourne Valley and Milton Abbas Benefice offers a weekly 10.30am service via Zoom, the video streaming app.

The Revd Jimmy Hamilton-Brown, who has Permission to Officiate in the Benefice explains:

"The church is not a building to be gone to, but a body to belong to. Nor is it mainly clergy. We have a good number of people who are going to contribute in different ways: Bible reading, the talk, the prayers etc.

"We have Lay Worship Leaders and Pastoral Assistants some of whom will be taking part, plus now 3 Lay Pioneers who are helping us to do 'non churchy' things in particular to share the love of God in our 6 villages.

"We do not even have a Rector at present, but the Revd Lewis Pearson and his family are expecting to be with us in September. But we are still planning something special for Palm Sunday and on Easter Day. I shall celebrate Holy Communion at home with others taking part from their homes."

And they are asking people to join them in any way that suits them. Jimmy adds:

"Some may make a 'spiritual communion', others may like to share bread & wine together at home."
