A top read from one of our priests
A top Christian-based think tank has chosen a book by a Pewsey priest as one of their books of the year.
'Perfect in Weakness' written by the Revd Colin Heber-Percy, who has recently been appointed as Team Vicar in the Savernake Benefice, was one of 13 books billed as the Theos Think Tank's "top picks for 2019".
The UK-based Theos conducts research, publishes reports, and holds debates, seminars and lectures on the relationship between religion, politics and society in the contemporary world.
Colin, who joins the Savernake Team later this month, was the Assistant Curate in the Vale of Pewsey Benefice. He said:
"I'm really thrilled Perfect in Weakness was selected as one of the books of 2019 by the Theos think tank. Perfect in Weakness takes a particular film - 'Stalker' by Andrei Tarkovsky - as a starting point for an exploration of faith in our times.
"The book is really a personal labour of love that navigates a twisty course from the Early Church Fathers to The Wizard of Oz and David Bowie, via Shakespeare, medieval romance literature, Jane Austen and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
"I'm currently working on a second book, again about film but this time focussing on empathy and the Fall."
Colin, who is a TV scriptwriter has also written episodes of the BBC drama Casualty.
Theos aims to stimulate the debate about the place of religion in society, challenging and changing ideas through research, commentary and events.
