A story of resilience

by Michael Ford last modified 26 Jun, 2020 10:26 PM

A book by Old Testament and Hebrew Bible expert Meg Warner has been described as "electric" by Bishop Nicholas.

'Joseph: a story of resilience' invites the reader to think deeply about Joseph’s character and how he responds to the traumatic events that threaten to overwhelm him.

Lacing her commentary with telling anecdotes from her own life story, Meg Warner shows how a deeper understanding of Joseph’s story can help you develop the vital quality of resilience: the will and the strength to endure life’s hardships and rise above the effects of trauma whenever it may strike.

The book entered the final stages of publishing in March when the coronavirus pandemic hit. Speaking about the context Meg says, although she does not know what context we will be in when we pick up this book:

"The pressure on every single one of us – individuals and communities alike – to be resilient and to practise resilience will have grown exponentially."

Commenting on the book, Bishop Nicholas said:

"This book is electric. Meg Warner has that rare knack of using personal story to bring the biblical story to life... It makes for compulsive reading."

Meg Warner is Tutor in Old Testament/ Hebrew Bible at Northern College, Manchester. Her previous publications include 'Abraham: A Journey through Lent' (SPCK, 2015).

Joseph: a story of resilience is published by SPCK Publishing, and can be ordered from the Sarum College Bookshop, or possibly your local Christian bookshop.
