'A Stitch in Time' gets World Premiere in Dorset
St Andrew's Church in Yetminster was the venue for the world premiere of music set to 18th century sampler work.
'A Stitch in Time', written by the Dorset composer SK Twiselton was part of a programme called 'Songs of Albion'.
The programme also included adaptions of folk songs, ancient texts and runes from, amongst others, well known composers such as Britten, Vaughan Williams, Tippett and Purcell.
Some 120 people enjoyed the concert by Yetminster mezzo-soprano Kate Hawnt and Dorset-based harpist Kirsty Whatley in St Andrew’s Church, but the highlight of the evening was the world premiere of the new song cycle, which set to music the sampler work of 6 girls from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Kate and Kirsty have performed all over Europe together for the last 15 years.
