A Space for Prayer in Salisbury

A Salisbury church located just metres from where the victims of a nerve agent attack were found has said it is open for all to pray or just find space.

St Thomas’s, the parish church of Salisbury city centre, is open every day and has set up a special station for prayers for those affected by the attacks to be offered.

The Revd Kelvin Inglis, Rector of St Thomas’s, Salisbury, said,  “St Thomas’s is open from 8am to 5pm every day for prayer and reflection. We know many people are upset by this attack on our city, and we have set up a prayer station where they can go and spend time with their emotions, and with God if they are people of faith, in a place of peace.

“This attack is a violation of the peace and prosperity of the city, and we shall respond next month with a service that will acknowledge what the various services have done, and will reclaim the city for the common good. This will include an open air ceremony at The Maltings, where Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found. This will take place on Sunday 15 April at 3 pm.

“In the meantime, this is primarily a tragedy for the people involved and our prayers are for them, most especially with Sergei and Yulia Skripal and the police officer who was made seriously ill while assisting them.

“Prayers for those affected and for the emergency and security services are being said each day.

“Our main service on Sunday coming, which is Mothering Sunday, 11 March at 10.15am will have a particular focus on the well-being of our community. All are welcome.”
