A Reflective Space for All

Bishop Karen joined pupils at the Purbeck View School, a mixed-gender residential school for students aged 7-19 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and associated difficulties, to celebrate the work.

Also on hand at the Service of Inclusion that unveiled the new space were staff, parents, local public and faith representatives, and members of the clergy from Swanage.

There was huge excitement at the re-imagining of the chapel as a ‘reflective space for all’ and community café.

Licensed Lay Pioneer Minister Lindy Cameron, who has been involved in creating the new space said:

"New art work created by the students is now displayed on the walls, and sensory boards have been repaired and relocated within the chapel.

"New sensory equipment has been purchased with money from Churches Together and is part of the newly designed reflective space. A café-style area is now situated at the back, with bright table coverings chosen by students and staff with beanbags and footstools occupying an area at the front.

"The amazing altar frontal was made by Sally Silk from a design I felt the Lord had shown me - the hands are the students. I could have never made it come alive as Sally has so expertly accomplished.

"All this has been a culmination of a rich history of voluntary involvement with the school over many years. Thanks to the many people who have made this possible and especially Ginny Bellard, the Principal who was happy to run with and contribute to the vision for this new venture with me.

"We are now planning our first Community Cafe event and...!"
